    The Valentia Road Lighthouse

    The Valentia Road Lighthouse
    7 July 2007 Administrator

The Lighthouse in Valentia Road is another Grade II Statutory Listed Building. Now disused as a functional lighthouse it is a private residence, it is an unusual and very notable feature of the conservation area.

It is closely encompassed by the surrounding houses but has a strong design with an octagonal battered tower mainly of brick with plaster strips on the angles and dentilled corbels. From the overhanging stone platform which is supported by deep stone brackets sits a delicate octagonal glazed light chamber with a conical roof and weather vane. From Valentia Road the tower and light chamber dominate the substantial and symmetrical Keeper’s House below with its bay windowed central section and four tall chimney stacks.
